Mitie secures extension to clean Scotland’s best loved landmarks
- Mitie has secured a five-year contract extension with Historic Environment Scotland following a nine-year partnership
- Contract includes the specialist cleaning of Edinburgh Castle, Scotland’s leading paid for tourist attraction
- Sustainability will be a core focus of the contract with Mitie introducing the first electric vehicle at Edinburgh Castle
Mitie has expanded its relationship with public body Historic Environment Scotland (HES) with a five-year cleaning contract worth £4.4 million. Having held the long-term contract with HES since 2010, Mitie will continue to provide a range of specialist cleaning services to HES’s estate of over 50 historic buildings and ancient monuments such as Edinburgh Castle, Stirling Castle and Melrose Abbey.
Mitie will provide a range of services to keep Scotland’s best loved buildings spick and span – including both the external and internal cleaning of buildings, offices and windows. In support of Edinburgh’s commitment to reduce the city’s carbon emissions by 40% in the next year, Mitie will be introducing Edinburgh Castle’s first electric vehicle. This will reduce environmental impact and carbon emissions whilst allowing Mitie’s team easy navigation when moving equipment around the cobbled streets of Edinburgh.
Matthew Thompson, Managing Director, Cleaning and Environmental Services, Mitie said:
“It’s a privilege to look after some of Scotland’s best loved historic buildings and monuments through our strong partnership with HES. With a renewed focus on sustainability, we’re excited to introduce the first electric vehicle at Edinburgh to support the capital’s carbon emission pledge and we will continue to deliver improvements to keep Scotland’s beautiful heritage sites shining.”
